The 2013 based-on-real-events crime drama The Bling Ring had Emma Watson in a surprising Valley accent. Playing the character Nicki Moore, she transformed into a shallow and materialistic teenager who targets celebrities and commits burglaries.

Portraying a character so different than the one she was used to playing, Watson received wide acclaim and positive reviews from critics for her ability to tackle the role as well as she did. The biggest surprise for many was perhaps the Harry Potter star’s authentic Los Angeles accent.

Emma Watson once again proved everyone wrong with her authentic performance in the crime drama The Bling Ring. Having perfectly portrayed the complex character of Nicki, she showed the film industry that she is more than capable to go for more complex and critical characters.

Even critics praised the talented Beauty and the Beast actress for her nuanced performance, adding depth to a character and approaching her from different perspectives rather than just focusing on her materialistic nature. The best part, however, was the typical Valley accent she adopted for the role.

While it is not easy to learn a whole new dialect, Emma Watson had lots of help from the Kardashians. To perfect her accent, the actress was inspired by Kim Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian clan.

“I watched a lot of ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ and ‘The Hills,’ and I tried to understand the psychology of this kind of girl as much as possible. I didn’t want her to be just a parody. The accent was hard as it was a particular kind of dialect.”

This shows the level of commitment the actress holds, who went out of her comfort zone to brilliantly portray such a complex character which could easily have been shallow and unworthy of thought.

Emma Watson Loved Playing A Character That Wasn’t Hermoine Granger

Harry Potter showed Emma Watson as a goody-two-shoes who could never do anything wrong. Having played the character for so long, Watson has been vocal about breaking away from Hermoine Granger and taking up a more challenging and complex character. Talking about her surprising transformation, the movie’s director Sofia Coppola said,

“I think it’s really interesting to see an actress that you’ve seen in other things really transform into a completely different character that’s so different than her. And all of them are so different than the characters in the movie so it’s always exciting to see an actor transform.”

And Emma Watson couldn’t be happier about playing such a character, who describes it as part of normal experiences in life.
