“Get Along With You” Singer Kelis Says Beyonce Has No Soul, Accuses She Stole Her Songs to Get Rich and Famous

The Milkshake singer Kelis called out Beyonce in her recent social media post.

With Beyoncé’s seventh studio album Renaissance release, a Kelis fan page shared a post about how the album has a sample song of Kelis’s 1999 single Get Along With You. Kelis posted two reels on her Instagram feed and expressed her opinions about the controversy. The singer claims that she got to know about the sample before anyone else on social media.

The singer further claimed, in a separate comment, that she was not informed of the sample song being used in the album. The lyrics of the song have Beyoncé singing, “You won’t break my soul,” to which Kelis responds that maybe because she doesn’t have one. Kelis also commented on the fan page from her cooking account, bountyandfull, and said,

“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding . I heard about this the same way everyone else did . Nothing is ever as it seems , some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.”

In the videos shared by Kelis, she said that “(Beyoncé) should have at least reached out” to her about using her song. Kelis said,

It’s not about me being jealous. Jealous of someone using my song? That’s the dumbest, most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard.” She later added, “It has to do with the fact that, from one artist to another, you should have the decency and common sense and the courtesy to call.”

Beyonce’s credit did not impress Kelis

However, Beyonce’s album DID HAVE the credit for Kelis’s song, but she felt that wasn’t enough. According to Kelis, it’s theft, not a collaboration. In the same post, many also commented that Kelis should “admire” that the 28 times Grammy award-winning Beyonce included Kelis on the Renaissance album. To which Kelis responded, “admire is not the word”.

Beyonce’s Renaissance is the first part of a three-part project that the singer produced during the pandemic. The highly anticipated album’s lead single Break My Soul also includes samples of Big Freedia’s Explode and Show Me Love by Robyn S.
