Matthew Perry Lost the Role of His Lifetime in Leonardo DiCaprio Film ‘Don’t Look Up’ After an Emergency

Late actor Matthew Perry who’s iconically regarded as Chandler Bing once recalled why he lost a role opposite to Meryl Streep in Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up.

Matthew Perry was all set to join the star-studded cast of Don’t Look Up until he was rushed to the hospital due to pain in his stomach. Oscar-winning actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence were given the lead roles. Matthew Perry revealed that he lost the role for a lifetime because of his medical condition as his heart stopped for almost five minutes and found eight broken ribs while the doctors were treating him.

When we talk about the Don’t Look Up movie, one thing that quickly pops into our minds is the star-studded cast and the comedic performances by the incredible actors. Leonardo DiCaprio secured the lead role and Matthew Perry was considered to get cast opposite Meryl Streep, but his health conditions made things worse.

While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Perry said: “I got CPR and the guy who saved my life broke eight ribs in the process…They were doing a procedure because I had pain in my stomach. They were doing a procedure and they gave me propofol and my heart stopped for five minutes.”

The FRIENDS alum explained that even though he wasn’t legally dead, his heart stopped for five minutes and after the procedure was done, the Serving Sara star was in a different hospital and found that Streep wasn’t around him.

Perry said: “I had to give up the biggest movie I’d ever gotten.” The 17 Again star had four scenes with Meryl Streep. The movie featured Academy Award winners Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as two low-level astronomers who discover a planet-destroying comet is heading towards Earth.

Don’t Look Up cast included Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, Tyler Perry, Cate Blanchett, and a minor cameo from Chris Evans which made the film worthy enough to watch as even the pop sensation Ariana Grande was a part of the comedy science fiction.

FRIENDS cast includes Matthew Perry’s co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer bid a final goodbye to their beloved friend at his private funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, near Warner Bros.

Studios, where the sitcom was filmed and earned Perry an enormous fanbase by portraying Chandler Bing. The costars previously told People that: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

The Fools Rush In star’s friends mentioned their prayers and support for Perry’s beloved people and his family who also spoke about the tragic loss. Mattew Perry was found dead in his bathtub and the actual reason behind his sudden demise is yet to be confirmed.
