Just when you thought the hype for Queen Bey’s Houston homecoming couldn’t be greater, fellow Houstonian – and A-list artist – Megan Thee Stallion will join Beyoncé for her Renaissance tour dates in Houston.

In the past few weeks the city has turned upside down in anticipation for Beyoncé’s return to Houston. The all-time-Grammy-winningest artist is slated to perform two sold-out concerts at the NRG Stadium for her Renaissance tour. To escalate the anticipation, fellow Houstonian Megan Thee Stallion will join Beyoncé for what will be a concert for the ages.

In order to open for Beyoncé, in fact, Megan Thee Stallion had to drop out of a scheduled headlining performance at Global Citizen Festival in NYC’s Central Park.

The news broke on September 10, 11 days before she was scheduled to make her festival appearance.

“Hi there —due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, Megan Thee Stallion will no longer be available to perform at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival,” Global Citizen published in a Twitter post. The reason cited as “an inadvertent duplicate scheduling mistake by her team,” was that Beyoncé asked her to.

Megan Thee Stallion – a key-holder to the city of Houston – recently partnered with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos to establish a scholarship fund up to $150,000 at Texas Southern University in Houston.

Ahead of this weekend, local business have caught the spirit of the Beyhive. From local bars like Bowl & Barrel, The General Public, Angel Share HTX, and Bar Louie, making Beyoncé-inspired cocktails, to Beyoncé-themed pilate classes at Montrose Collective, as well as Beyoncé-themed lattes at Slowpokes.

Other Beyoncé-related events going on in Houston include a silent disco at Rooftop Cinema Club scheduled for September 28, as well as a rooftop concert series playing classical renditions of Beyoncé hits in an enchanting setting.
