After a long break to focus on taking care of her family, Nicki Minaj made a successful comeback with Super Freaky Girl. The song caused a stir on TikTok, quickly becoming Nicki Minaj’s first hit as a solo artist, reaching the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Super Freaky Girl and Do We Have A Problem? are also two songs sent by the female rapper’s team to be nominated for this year’s Grammys music awards.
The song Super Freaky Girl marks Nicki Minaj’s epic return. |
However, for unknown reasons, Super Freaky Girl was moved by the Grammys committee to the nomination category for Pop songs instead of Rap because they thought the song did not have Rap quality. Nicki affirmed that she can be sure of winning in the Rap category, but if her song is pushed to the Pop category, she will have to “fight” with many famous names of the Pop genre such as Adele and Harry Styles. She suspects that the Grammys arranged for her to have less chance of winning.
The fact that Super Freaky Girl was moved to the Grammys nomination category for Pop songs caused Nicki Minaj to face many strong opponents. |
Before this incident, the owner of the hit Annaconda was extremely dissatisfied, she said she would agree with this change if it was applied consistently to other artists: “I have no problem with Super Freaky Girl is eliminated from the Rap category as long as we are all treated the same. If my Super Freaky Girl is eliminated from the Rap category then so should Latto’s Big Energy .”
Afterwards, Nicki Minaj posted a 17-minute video on Instagram to further clarify her point of view: “It’s unfair that an emerging artist gets things they don’t deserve yet. I always understand that any rapper, male or female, should be proud of themselves when receiving a Grammy award. But why has it never belonged to me?
Nicki Minaj shouted her junior Latto’s name because she thought she was being treated unfairly. |
Unable to sit still in front of her seniors’ comments, Latto angrily criticized old Nicki Minaj, expressing her disappointment when she once wished Nicki would cooperate with her. Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj constantly compares her age and musical achievements with her juniors. The current war of words between the two female rappers has not come to an end.
Latto was born in 1998, is a female rapper from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. She first appeared in the reality television competition The Rap Game in 2016 under the stage name Miss Mulatto and won the first season of this show. In 2019, she released her debut single but only really resonated with the song Big Energy released in 2022.
