Isolated from the outside world because for 700 years there was no road, the people of the ancient village of Giethoorn moved by boat through canals.

Located 120 km from the capital Amsterdam, the small village of Giethoorm is known as the Venice of the Netherlands with its intricate canal system and hundreds of wooden bridges connecting the two banks. The village was built by a group of Mediterranean migrants from around 1230.

That day, while working in the fields, residents accidentally discovered many goat horns buried in the ground. From there, they named the village Giethoorm, meaning the place where goat horns were excavated.

Coming here, visitors will experience a cool, sweet fairy tale world, immersing themselves in the freshness of nature. In the dreamy, peaceful land of Giethoorn, dust and car horns do not exist. This village has not built roads for vehicles for 700 years, they travel by boats with special engines that do not make noise.

If in spring, mother nature gives the fairy land fresh, vibrant, and full of vitality colors, then in the fall, the leaves all turn red and yellow, extremely beautiful. In winter, the landscape seems to be covered in white snow, the canals in the heart of Giethoorn are completely frozen, creating an extremely magical and exciting scene. As the temperature drops, this place turns into a paradise for ice skating lovers.

After being chosen as the setting in the hit comedy film Fanfare released in 1958, Giethoorn village quickly became famous. Tourists come to the village to enjoy the charming scenery and experience interesting activities such as kayaking and canoeing down the canal.
