Why Travis Kelce won’t join Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes (even though he’ll be in LA)

Though Taylor Swift has attended at least five Kansas City Chiefs games in a row, Travis Kelce reportedly won’t be able to return the favour at the Golden Globes — even though he’s also scheduled to be in Los Angeles.

At the Globes, which are airing live on 7 January, the 34-year-old pop star is nominated in a new category, cinematic and box office achievement, for her concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Though Swift has been nominated on four separate occasions for best original song, this could mark her first Golden Globes win.

If you look at that date on your calendar, you’ll notice that 7 January is coming up this Sunday…the same day the Kansas City Chiefs are scheduled to play an away game against the Los Angeles Chargers at 1:25pm PT.

While this physically places Kelce in Los Angeles at the same time as his girlfriend’s big night, a source tells Page Six that he won’t be able to walk the red carpet — which begins around 3pm— with her. As far as I know, Kelce hasn’t mastered the art of teleportation, so this makes complete sense.

Why Travis Kelce Wont Join Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes

However, it looks as though Kelce won’t even be able to join Swift at an after-party. According to the same source, the 34-year-old tight end will fly back to Kansas City with the rest of the team immediately following the game.

Though Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce secretly dated for a couple of months before going public in late September, the majority of their relationship has occurred during football season.

Therefore it’s no surprise Kelce hasn’t been able to attend as many Swift-related events as he might like. Not only did Kelce skip The Eras Tour movie premiere in October, but he reportedly missed Swift’s 34th birthday party in New York City in December due to a mandatory practice.

That doesn’t mean Kelce hasn’t been supportive of Swift’s endeavours. Not only has Kelce made it a point to talk up his girlfriend at every available opportunity, he also flew all the way to Argentina for an Eras Tour performance during his team’s November bye week — a gesture that was clearly appreciated.

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” Swift recently told Time during her Person of the Year interview.

“The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
