While many fans expected the star to use the platform to make a political statement, the singer focused more on her music for the show.

“The only statements that I’ll be making during the half-time show are the ones that I’ve been consistently making throughout my career,” she previously said.

However she did perform her hit Born This Way, including the lyrics: “No matter gay, straight or bi/Lesbian, transgendered life/I’m on the right track baby/I was born to survive.”

And surprising many, she also performed Woodie Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land, which some viewers have claimed could have been a subtle dig at new President Donald Trump.

“One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” she said, in an apparent jab.

Mid-way through the medley of hits, Lady G sat down at a piano and performed Million Reasons.

Stadium perspective

Well that’s how you make an entrance.

She promised athleticism and energy, and Lady Gaga certainly delivered, jumping down from the roof after singing ‘God Bless America’ on top of the NRG Stadium.

Nobody was quite sure what to expect, but everyone inside the stadium was treated to a surprisingly orthodox performance by Gaga’s standards.

There were no meat dresses or political statements, just some of her top hits, and some well rehearsed choreography with the many back-up dancers – all about the music. It was refreshing to see, and a privilege to witness in person.

One of the best half-time performances in recent years. I say one of, I’m a Beyonce fan, so it’s hard to beat her lights out performance in New Orleans a few years ago.
