Nicolas Cage wishes to make this one long-forgotten DC villain “absolutely terrifying”!

"I could make him absolutely terrifying": Nicolas Cage Wanted Warner Bros. to Know He Wants to Play One Forgotten Batman Villain in Matt Reeves' Franchise

SUMMARY

Nicolas Cage expressed his desire to play the character Egghead in Matt Reeves’ Batman franchise.

Egghead is a long-forgotten nemesis of Batman, portrayed only once by Vincent Price for the 1966 Batman TV series.
The actor also mentioned that he has a concept in mind for the character and believes he could make him terrifying while adding his signature flair to the role.

Nicolas Cage has showcased through his extreme performances that he can embody just about any character, be it a hero or a villain, as efficiently and intensely as possible. That said, it’s worth noticing that while his remarkable acting skills have also granted him the golden ticket into two of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, he has only been cast in heroic and anti-heroic roles.

While he has absolutely nailed it as all of those characters, the truth is that Cage actually wants to play one forgotten nemesis of Batman who has only ever been played by the late Vincent Price in the late 1960s: Egghead. What’s more, he wants to play the character in Matt Reeves’ franchise of the Dark Knight, and has let his feelings known to Warner Bros. about the same as well!

Nicolas Cage Wants to Play Edgar Heed!

Of all the roles in superhero franchises he has taken on to date — including Superman in Teen Titans Go!: To the Movies and The Flash in the DCU, and his iconic Ghost Rider in the titular film series in the MCU — the one character Cage truly wants to have a go at is one of the Caped Crusader’s villains, Egghead aka Edgar Heed.

Nicolas Cage, the legend who has already made more than a hundred movies throughout his over four-decade-old career, was seen gracing his presence at the premiere of his movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent at the SXSW Film Festival 2022. That was when he was asked about the roles he has remaining on his bucket list.

Answering FOX 7 Austin‘s question, the Dream Scenario actor initially shared his hype about Robert Pattinson’s DCU superhero film as he said:

“Here’s something, I’ve been thinking about this, because we have this new (movie), Robert Pattinson as the Batman, which I’m excited to see. I haven’t seen it yet, but I think he will be terrific.”

Then he expressed what role he wanted to play in that particular saga established by filmmaker Matt Reeves saying:

“The villain that Vincent Price played on the ’60s show, Egghead. I think I want to have a go at [Edgar Heed].”

Now that’s an absolutely terrific choice, no doubt. Why? Because Edgar Heed, the character that Cage wants to play, has only been embodied once before. This was notably done in the most spectacular performance by the late Vincent Price in the fan-favorite live-action TV series from 1966, Batman.

But that isn’t all, for the National Treasure actor even has a concept in mind for playing Heed!

While wanting to play a character is one thing, Cage has taken it to a whole other level as he expressed that he even has the perfect idea in mind of what his iteration of the long-forgotten character would be like. Not only that, but the 60-year-old actor also has full confidence in himself for this specific role!

As per what he said during the same interview:

“I think I could make him absolutely terrifying. And I have a concept for [him]. So let them know over at Warner Bros – I’m down for [Edgar Heed].”

Would Robert Pattinson's sequel to The Batman finally bring back Edgar Heed?
Will Reeves’ DCU saga finally bring back Edgar Heed?
For those unversed with this obscure character, Edgar Heed was a baldy supervillain who had self-imposed the title of being “the world’s smartest criminal” on himself. As the name suggests, he was massively obsessed with eggs, and not only had a wide assortment of egg-shaped weapons but even made egg-puns while talking!

Well, now that the Ghost Rider star has openly expressed his wish, it seems like now would be the perfect time to 1. include a legendary actor in Robert Pattinson‘s saga of the Dark Knight, and 2. revive the long-forgotten villain through a sequel to Reeves’ film of the Caped Crusader from 2022.
