A couple of years ago, actor Mark Wahlberg expressed his vision for a Hollywood 2.0 film studio in Las Vegas. Recently, this vision has come to fruition with the approval of plans by Howard Hughes Holdings and Sony Pictures Entertainment for a $1.8 billion, 31-acre production studio in Summerlin, Las Vegas, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The Clark County Zoning Commission has granted variances to the Texas-based developer and Culver City-based media company to develop the Summerlin Production Studios at the intersection of South Town Center Drive and West Flamingo Road, located south of the 215 Beltway.
Once completed, the project will feature 10 buildings encompassing 500,000 square feet of space, including soundstages, offices, flex space, and areas for prop and equipment manufacturing.
According to Casino, the proposed $1.8 billion facility, a joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and the Howard Hughes Corporation, is slated for development on 30 acres in the Las Vegas suburb of Summerlin South, approximately nine miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.
The mixed-use project is set to feature 13 structures, encompassing around 500,000 square feet of indoor stages, production offices, prop workshops, bungalows, conference rooms, and a backlot. Additionally, plans include provisions for a restaurant and a satellite office for Clark County administration officials. The tallest building in the complex is expected to be four stories tall, reaching a height of 79 feet.
Kim Spurgeon, director of the Nevada Film Office, emphasized the need for more film studios in Las Vegas to align with the Hollywood 2.0 vision proposed by Wahlberg.
In September 2022, David O’Reilly, CEO of Howard Hughes Holdings, became aware of Wahlberg’s vision for a local movie studio through an article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Prompted by this, O’Reilly arranged a meeting with Wahlberg to discuss the idea further. Following this initial conversation, O’Reilly flew to Las Vegas to meet with Wahlberg and Tony Vinciquerra, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures.
Mark Wahlberg Doesn’t Support Weight Loss Medicine Ozempic

In case you weren’t aware, Ozempic and Wegovy, both developed by Novo Nordisk, are brand names for semaglutide, an FDA-approved weight-loss drug introduced in 2021. Semaglutide, including its variations like Ozempic, operates by curbing appetite.
During an interview with Page Six, Mark Wahlberg shared his inclination towards the conventional method of maintaining fitness. He advocates for a lifestyle shift centered around balanced nutrition and regular exercise. Wahlberg emphasized that he does not endorse the use of Ozempic or similar medications.
“To each his own, but I do encourage people to eat right and exercise. It’s much more [of] a lifestyle change. You’d be surprised what you can accomplish when you’re willing to do the work.”
However, Mark Wahlberg still respects individual choices in fitness journeys when it comes to using weight loss medicine. That said, he believes in the potential for ordinary people to achieve extraordinary things through a solid fitness foundation.
‘‘I don’t knock anybody for making their own choices,” he said. “But I prefer, and I’ve seen lots of people accomplish amazing things, ordinary people doing extraordinary things on a fitness base.”
Ozempic has side effects like muscle loss, nausea, and diarrhea. Furthermore, the lost weight often returns after treatment cessation, so it makes sense why Mark Wahlberg doesn’t want to use it himself, and we respect him for that decision.
