Taylor Swift has sent her thanks to Sydney for the whirlwind of endless magical moments
Taylor Swift has reflected on her ‘whirlwind’ tour of Sydney after wrapping up the Australian leg of her Eras Tour.
The global superstar, who is now in Singapore, took to Instagram in the early hours of Tuesday morning to pay tribute to the legions of fans who saw her perform in the Harbour City, while marvelling at their lung capacity and passion.
‘Sydney, Sydney, Sydney, Sydney… what a whirlwind of endless magical moments with you,’ the 34-year-old began alongside a carousel of images.
The one-woman economy went on to say she was proud that her Eras Tour was the first in the city to play Accor Stadium four times, before she went on to highlight some of her personal memories from the sold-out shows.
‘I’ll never forget singing with Sabrina [Carpenter], the chaotic acoustic mashups, and the crowds that were louder (singing AND screaming) than I thought humanly possible.’
‘I want to thank all of the Aussie fans for being so positive and passionate, so funny and wild and FUN. Love you forever,’ she continued.
It’s not the first time Swift has paid tribute to Sydney.
During her final performance on Monday, February 26, the Blank Space hitmaker complimented her adoring audience.
‘Looking at this crowd, the biggest crowd we’ve had at our four shows here!’ she said to rapturous applause.
The Eras Tour was seen by more than 600,000 people on the Australian leg.
A record-breaking 96,000 fans attended each of her three nights in Melbourne, while Sydney attracted a further 83,000 Swifties at each of her four shows.
The pop sensation reportedly earned $25million per Sydney show.
Swift also injected a whopping $145m into the NSW economy, as thousands of local and interstate fans flocked to the city for the must-see event of the year.
‘The Swift effect is undeniable when it comes to the economic impact her tour delivers to host cities,’ Accommodation Australia chief executive Michael Johnson told The Daily Telegraph.
‘Based on past calculations, her shows can inject between $150 and $200 million to a state’s economy, just as we saw in Melbourne.’
The NSW economy grew across many sectors, with hotel rooms fully booked out, restaurants and bars jam-packed and thousands of fans splurging on merchandise.
Meanwhile, tax lawyer Harry Dell revealed that Swift would have paid 30 per cent tax to the Australian Tax Office on her concert earnings.
This means the Australian government collected about $10million in tax from Swift across her four Sydney shows.
In Victoria, Swift injected a whopping $174million into the state economy after her three Melbourne shows.
Thousands of fans splashed out a collective $86m in the accommodation, hospitality and tourism sector, with CBD spending up 30% compared to the previous month.
