Nicolas Cage, who provided the voice of Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, may be making his way back to the superhero world.
SUMMARY
Nicolas Cage affirms the rumors regarding Spider-Man Noir, praising the character and the possibility of fusing classic performances with contemporary pop culture.
The actor previously nailed the role of Spider-Man Noir in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’.
As Cage highlights, there are still discussions, and nothing is definitive yet.
The rumors that Nicolas Cage might make a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are probably familiar to fans of both comic books and the Oscar-winning star. While many expect him to reprise his role as Ghost Rider in the upcoming flick Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems that the actor, 60, could be taking on a different Marvel character this time around.
Cage recently responded to reports that he is in talks to play the lead in Marvel’s live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series. The actor previously voiced the character in the animated flick Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). He quickly clarified, though, that while discussions are happening, nothing is set in stone just yet.
Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider
Spider-Man Noir is a popular take on the classic Spider-Man character, set in a dark and gritty 1930s New York City. The character made his comic book debut in 2009 and has since built a devoted fan base. Fans have been clamoring for a live-action adaptation, and the potential casting of Cage has only served to heighten the anticipation.
Nicolas Cage is in Talks for a Live-Action Spider-Man Noir Series?
Last month, we learned from Variety that Amazon Prime Video was creating a live-action series based on Spider-Man Noir. It turns out that Nicolas Cage is, at the very least, in early discussions to play the role.
In a recent interview with Collider at SXSW, Cage—who provided the character’s voice in the smash 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse—said he has been in “conversation[s]” about returning to the role in the live-action series.
The Shadow of the Vampire co-producer told the outlet:
“Well, I can say that we have been talking.”

Cage continued to discuss his “love” for the character, confirming that he had discussions about the role, adding:
“It’s no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another mash up of sorts. I can combine my favorite golden age performances, i.e. Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee’s masterpiece. I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash up by way of Bogart and Cagney, but nothing’s definitive yet. It’s just conversation.”
Per Screen Rant, Sony is working with MGM+ and Prime Video to create a number of live-action Spider-Man TV series that would premiere on MGM+ before being streamed on the Amazon service. Executive producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who worked on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, are attached to those series.
Meanwhile, Cage is apparently in “serious talks” to return to the role of Spider-Man Noir in an upcoming live-action series, according to another report from The Ankler.
Let’s Learn More About Spider-Man Noir
Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Spider-Man Noir made his appearance in the comic book series of the same name, which began in 2009. It followed the adventures of Peter Parker in a different 1930s timeline and universe. This iteration, commonly referred to as Noir, took place in a world where Parker, after being bitten by a mystical spider, uses his newly acquired powers to fight against the backdrop of the Great Depression.
The series creates a very different but captivating story about the beloved character, set apart by its unique visual style and darker tone, by fusing classic Spider-Man heroics with the gritty, shadowy world of noir.
Although there is currently no word on when the Spider-Man Noir TV series will be available on Prime Video, fans can always watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to revisit the days of Nicolas Cage as the voice of the character.
