Liam Neeson apologizes for his words. “They were hurtful and divisive”
Liam Neeson commented for the first time on his words, which caused a great stir in the media in February.
The actor then confessed that when someone close to him was raped several dozen years ago, he wanted to kill a black man – not necessarily the perpetrator.

In February, Liam Neeson promoted the film “Cold Pursuit”, in which he plays a hero taking revenge for the death of his son. In an interview with the British daily “Independent”, he admitted that he understood his character’s motivations.
He then talked about a situation that took place many years ago when, after returning from America, he found out that someone close to him had been raped.
– I walked around different areas with a crowbar in my hand, hoping someone would approach me – he admitted. – I’m ashamed of it, but I lurked around pubs for a week, hoping that some black bastard would provoke me and I could kill him.
Now Neeson has broken his silence and commented on the words that received wide coverage in the media.
“Over the last few weeks, I have been thinking a lot and talking to many people whom I hurt with my impulsive memory of the brutal rape of a dear friend 40 years ago, as well as the unacceptable thoughts that this crime caused me at the time,” wrote the actor.
He also stated that in trying to explain his emotions, he had unintentionally hurt many people.
“The horror of the situation that occurred caused me to have irrational thoughts that do not reflect the person I am,” Neeson said, admitting that his words were “hurtful and divisive.” “I am deeply sorry for it,” he said.
The actor is known for his honest and sometimes controversial statements. Speaking about the conflict in Northern Ireland, he said that while violence begets violence, he understood the need for revenge on the part of the Irish.
ƠLast year he said the #MeToo movement was a “witch hunt.” While promoting the film “Non-Stop” in 2014, he said that although it is terrible, we all judge people because of the color of their skin.
“Cold Pursuit” is a remake of the Norwegian film “Citizen of the Year” with Stellan Skarsgaard. The main character is a plow driver who, after his son is murdered by drug dealers, decides to take revenge. This isn’t Neeson’s first film with a revenge theme. “Taken” from 2004 began a new stage in the career of the actor, who began to successfully play in action films.
