According to Variety, Liam Neeson has just signed a contract to play Philip Marlowe in the movie Marlowe.

The famous private detective character was created on the pages of books by Raymond Chandler in 1939, has appeared on screen many times and is now “reborn” by screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed).

Monahan wrote the Marlowe script based on the book The Black-Eyed Blonde (2014). The work is set in the 1950s, when Philip Marlowe was old, lonely and gradually became absent from customers.

A beautiful blonde woman suddenly came to him to investigate the disappearance of her ex-lover. From there, Marlowe discovered a series of horrifying mysteries and had to confront noble families in the city.

“Benjamin Black’s book is a rich source for adaptation. I definitely don’t want to ruin Philip Marlowe’s image in the public eye,” William Monahan excitedly shared.

In the past, Philip Marlowe was a very popular character in Hollywood, and was portrayed by the legendary Humphrey Bogart in the thriller film The Big Sleep (1946) directed by Howard Hawks.

After that, Robert Montgomery, George Montgomery, James Garner, Elliott Gould, Robert Mitchum were the brightest stars who followed Bogart to portray Marlowe on screen.

However, the last time audiences watched Philip Marlowe show off his talent was in 1978 through the remake of The Big Sleep with actor Mitchum.
