From all the star-studded meetings to the night’s most standout moments, we caught everything not shown on TV
Though many were glued to the TV to watch Alicia Keys‘ hosting duties, the performances and big winners at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday, PEOPLE was also watching for the action off-camera and backstage.
From all the star-studded meetings to the night’s most standout moments, we caught everything not shown on TV.
Here’s what you missed.
On the Red Carpet
Lady Gaga and Robin Thicke walked alongside each other on the carpet where Thicke, who is expecting his third child with pregnant fiancée April Love Geary, introduced Gaga to his son, Julian.
The Star Is Born actress, 32, and the 8-year-old, whose mom is actress Paula Patton, had a cute moment where she bent down to say hello.
Post Malone was among the few who stopped to take selfies with fans as he sweetly threw up the peace sign for most of them.
It was date night for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who walked hand-in-hand on the carpet. Once again the retired MLB star was seen being the perfect Instagram boyfriend.
And what’s a Grammys red carpet without huge entourages? Malone and Cardi B were some of the stars joined by a large group of friends and crew.
Inside the Show
Gaga was spotted breaking it down and whipping her hair around in the front row during Janelle Monaé‘s performance.
Meanwhile, Meghan Trainor and her new husband, Daryl Sabara, were some of the few standing up and dancing the entire time.
Just after the performance the star and her dancers had a mini celebration backstage full of hugging and high-fives.
The star-studded tribute to Dolly Parton received, arguably, the biggest reaction from the audience — especially when the country legend joined Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves for “Here You Come Again.”
J. Lo finally took off her giant embellished hat (which matched her opulent embellished high-neck Ralph & Russo gown) to the visible relief of the audience members behind her.
Diana Ross’ 9-year-old grandson Raif, who stole the show when he introduced her performance, was spotted running around hamming it up and getting reeled back in during commercial breaks.
Following Gaga’s epic performance of “Shallow,” several fans in the audience were chanting “Gaga, Gaga” as she walked off stage.
Before Travis Scott’s performance with James Blake and Earth Wind & Fire, the commercial break announcer asked everyone to clear the aisles for a “phenomenal sequence.”
And that performance took a ton of set up. Production crew were spotted hurriedly trying to lock in the huge metal cage before the commercial break ended.
Lopez received a standing ovation — that backflip! — after her Motown tribute with NE-YO, Alicia Keys and Smokey Robinson.
Several in the audience were visibly moved and wowed by Brandi Carlile, who received a standing ovation before she completed her set.
After Cardi B won her best rap album award, a woman fell on stage and was helped by production.
Dua Lipa’s acceptance speech for best new artist was cut off due to length but that didn’t stop her from continuing to talk to the audience.
Though the music was getting increasingly loud, she spoke about how anyone can achieve their dreams and she’s achieved hers.
The 61st Annual Grammy Awards were broadcast live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10, on CBS.
