Pierce Brosnan Reflects: ‘I Never Felt Good Enough as James Bond’

Actor says that he felt he was “caught in a time warp between Roger and Sean”.

Pierce Brosnan believes that he was “never good enough” in the role of James Bond.

Brosnan played James Bond in GoldenEyeTomorrow Never DiesThe World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day, before being replaced by Daniel Craig in 2005.

He told The Telegraph: “I felt I was caught in a time warp between Roger and Sean. It was a very hard one to grasp the meaning of, for me.

“The violence was never real, the brute force of the man was never palpable.

It was quite tame, and the characterisation didn’t have a follow-through of reality, it was surface.

But then that might have had to do with my own insecurities in playing him as well.

Asked if he has revisited the movies, he replied: “I have no desire to watch myself as James Bond. ‘Cause it’s just never good enough. It’s a horrible feeling.”

However, Brosnan did say that he is grateful for his time as James Bond as it has opened up many other opportunities.

He explained: “It’s the gift that keeps on giving, that allowed me to create my own production company and make my own movies.”

Brosnan’s new film The Love Punch, which also stars Emma Thompson, will be released in the UK next Friday (April 18).
