Jennifer Aniston wants fans to ‘celebrate’ Matthew Perry’s legacy after his death
Jennifer Aniston remembered her “Friends” co-star Matthew Perry while attending the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, less than three months after his death.
The “Morning Show” actress, 54, was asked by Entertainment Tonight how she hopes Perry’s fans will treat his legacy.
“[To] celebrate him,” she said on the red carpet in Santa Monica, California.
Perry died on Oct. 28 when he drowned in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. He was 54.His death was due to “acute effects of ketamine” and the manner of death was accidental drowning, according to the autopsy report.
The report noted that Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression and drug addiction, and that he may have had a prescription for the drug — or might have obtained it illegally. However, the medical examiner noted the amount of ketamine in Perry’s system could not have just been from his final infusion treatment, a week and a half before his death.

Aniston was in attendance for her series “The Morning Show.”WireImage,Pathologist Dr. Michael Baden explained to The Post: “He essentially died from an overdose of ketamine and had about three times the normal [dosage] amount in his system.”
The “Fools Rush In” star famously battled with drug addiction throughout his life, but before his death had claimed to have been sober for 19 months.
Aniston, discussing Perry’s passing with Variety in December, said she texted with him the morning of his death.
“He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy,” she told Variety through tears.
“He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know.”

The “Horrible Bosses” star continued, “I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard.”
Last week, Aniston appeared to lean on pals in the industry as she attended the Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” read the statement, which was issued on Oct. 30. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
“In time we will say more, as and when we are able,” it continued. “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
Perry was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Church of the Hills in Los Angeles on Nov. 3.
