Selena Gomez, Rema make chart history with ‘Calm Down’

The global hit makes Mediabase Top 40 history

“Calm Down” the colossal worldwide hit by Mavin/Jonzing recording artist Rema and Grammy-nominated and Interscope recording artist Selena Gomez has made Mediabase Top 40 chart history. With the chart published on October 22nd, the hypnotic song has now amassed an unprecedented 50 weeks on the Top 40 chart, more than any other song since the chart began. The RIAA-certified triple-platinum “Calm Down” has almost three billion global streams since its release on August 25, 2022, and is the most streamed Afrobeat song of all time.

The song reached No. 1 in Top 40, rhythm, urban and hot AC as well as the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Global chart.

Selena Gomez & Rema

Last month, Gomez released her highly-anticipated new song “Single Soon” via Interscope Records. As Gomez continues to work on the follow-up to her critically praised album Rare, she wanted to give her fans a fun end-of-the-summer song to enjoy as they’ve been patiently waiting for new music from the multi-hyphenate Gomez. The song was produced by Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat.

Last fall, she was the subject of an Apple TV+ documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me. Next year will see her return as Mabel in the fourth season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building with Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Since his debut, Rema has come in and completely switched up the game, rapidly becoming one of the biggest and most internationally known names in the new wave of Afrobeats stars. The young pioneer stands out due to his ability to bounce between influences, citing African, Indian and Arabic music as having an integral impact on his sound. With co-signs from the likes of Timberland, Barack Obama, Rihanna, Drake, Skepta and FKA Twigs, Rema puts his own supernatural spin on everything he touches, with his debut album proving he is worthy of all the hype surrounding him.
