David Beckham outlines New York Yankees ambition to Lionel Messi as pair spotted at dinner
David Beckham has outlined his ambition to explode Inter Miami’s brand to being as big a brand as the New York Yankees’.
The Miami co-owner has been in charge of the Major League Soccer franchise, alongside Jorge Mas, since the team was founded in 2020. Miami are now in their third season in the MLS, and already have one of the world’s best players in their ranks.
Lionel Messi was confirmed as a new signing for the Florida club earlier this month. He has already made an impact with his new team, scoring three goals across his first two appearances.
Beckham, Mas, and Messi were spotted on Thursday night at a luxury restaurant in Miami. The trio was accompanied by Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets, as well as each of their wives, Victoria, Aleyda, Antonela, and Elena, at the luxury Miami restaurant Gekko.

Beckham and Victoria, Mas and Aleyda, Messi and Antonela, Busquets and Elena went for dinner at the Japanese-inspired steakhouse owned, which is owned by music artist Bad Bunny. Restaurateur David Grutman is also an owner, as well as a close friend of Beckham.
The signings of Messi, Busquets, and Jordi Alba were a signal of intent by Beckham and Mas. And now Beckham has revealed his ambition to make Miami as recognisable a brand as the Yankees in baseball and world sports as a whole.
“I said, ‘What I want is the New York Yankees’,” Beckham told The Athletic. “‘Whether you’re a baseball fan, whether you’re a fan of the Yankees, whether you love New York, I want to create a brand like they have.
“You see the Yankees hat and straight away you know what it is. I want people walking around in our baseball caps knowing that’s a Miami cap, that’s a Miami brand. (That) Even if you’re not a soccer fan, you want to wear the jersey and the cap.”

Beckham added: “I don’t pick the (Miami) team. I don’t control anything on the field, in training, in matches. That’s down to the coaching staff. But I’m over recruitment with Chris (Henderson, the sporting director) and Jorge.
“We are constantly looking at ways to bring this club up to the level that we expect. We always believe we can bring this club up to compete with European clubs in the future.
“The teams I’ve played with over the years, some of them are 100 years old and more. We’re only three years in. But that is the level we feel we can get to.”
