David Beckham’s close bond with Kate and William after ‘furious’ fallout with Harry and Meghan

he Beckhams have close connections with the Royal Family, maintaining a special bond with Prince William and Princess Kate despite a reported fallout with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Despite an alleged ‘furious’ feud with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, David Beckham is thought to have a close relationship with Prince William and Princess Kate, as well as an ever-increasing relationship with King Charles.

Insiders say the former professional footballer has ‘cemented his friendship’ with the senior working royals, while ‘distancing themselves’ from Harry and Meghan. David is thought to be in talks with His Majesty The King to become a celebrity ambassador for a royal charity after recently accepting a family dinner party invitation.

The Inter Miami team president has formed a lasting friendship with Prince William over the years, snowballing in around 2020 when David joined a group video call with Wills and other sporting stars for the prince’s Heads Up mental health campaign.

It was that summer that David and son Romeo joined William, the president of the FA, in the royal box for the England vs Germany match, with pictures showing the father and son enjoy the game alongside Wills, Kate and the royal couple’s son George.

David joined them again at Earthshot Awards in Boston last year, while also inviting them to his son Brooklyn’s wedding, which they sadly couldn’t attend but did wish the family a “great deal of joy”. David opened up about his relationship with William back in 2012, during days he still shared a friendship with Prince Harry.

“They’re two people who have grown up in the spotlight and the respect that I have for them, and that people in our country and all over the world have for them, is amazing,” he said of the royal brothers. “I have a huge amount of respect for William and Harry because of what they’ve been through from a very young age. They’re a credit obviously to their mum and everyone in the Royal Family.”

While things remain rosy with Wills and Kate, it’s only recent that Becks’ relationship with Harry and Meghan has seemingly soured. David and wife Victoria stayed on friendly terms with Harry and when he started dating Meghan and they were reportedly eager to make her feel welcome in the UK. In fact, there were reports that Victoria had given Meghan access to her little black book of her favourite hairdressers and stylists in London.

Biographer Tom Bower, who has written a book on Meghan and is now writing one on the Beckhams, claimed in The Sun the former footballer and fashion designer even offered the now Duchess of Sussex refuge at their Los Angeles home at a time when there was intense media interest about her. However, the first sign of tension came shortly after this, when reports about Victoria helping out Meghan were published – leaving the Sussexes upset. According to the Mail On Sunday, Harry confronted David with his suspicions in a phone call that left the ex-Manchester United star “furious”.

Harry and Meghan were said to be worried that close friends might be leaking stories about them and were keen to find out who could be behind it. It is alleged that in particular, Meghan suspected Victoria – and Harry called David to repeat the accusation. A source close to the Beckhams told the publication: “David and Victoria went to Meghan and Harry’s wedding and were very supportive when Meghan arrived in the UK.”

Meanwhile more recently, there have been signs that all has not been right between the Sussexes and the Beckhams. Last year when David and Victoria’s eldest son Brooklyn married actress Nicola Peltz in a lavish wedding in Florida, Harry and Meghan were nowhere to be seen. Similarly, earlier this year when David welcomed football superstar Lionel Messi to his Inter Miami team, a star-studded crowd were in attendance for his debut. Among them included Kim Kardashian and Serena William, a pal of Meghan, but the Sussexes weren’t there.

Despite this rumoured fallout with Harry and Meghan, one royal expert insists David and Victoria couldn’t be in a better position with the Royal Family. “I think David and the King might have more in common than perhaps we might have realised,” explained Sarah Hewson. The TalkTV royal editor said: “For instance, like Charles, David is an avid beekeeper and he gifted the King a jar of honey that he had harvested after the coronation.

“I certainly think there’s a lot that can be done by them working together. I think that it’s quite an interesting development in terms of David’s history with the royal family – and it’s very clear which side the Beckhams are on,” they added.
