In many ways, the vintage revival we’ve seen of late all began with the A-list’s love of archival Jean Paul Gaultier. The likes of Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and FKA Twigs have all been championing pieces from the French designer’s vaults in recent years, from his Venus de Milo print to his famous conical bra.

The latest celebrity to join the vintage JPG fan club? Emily Ratajkowski, who wore a green halter-neck dress from Jean Paul Gaultier’s Soleil line at the VMAs on Tuesday night. Featuring a cut-out midriff, the semi-sheer look – which she paired with a Fendi baguette bag and barely-there heels by Piferi – was perfectly in keeping with the model’s sultry signature aesthetic.

Not only that, the archival piece, sourced from Opulent Addict, appeared to pay homage to another famous VMAs look: Christina Aguilera’s halter-neck scarf top from 2002, which she paired with a micro-mini skirt and a white cap. Ratajkowski’s stylist Jorden Bickham shared a picture of the singer at the event on Instagram, which features herself in the background, along with the caption: “True story this is me 21 years ago at the VMAs.”

Of course, the Jean Paul Gaultier dress is by no means the only archival piece in EmRata’s wardrobe: the model and author also owns trophy vintage by John Galliano, Versace and Roberto Cavalli. Arguably, though, her latest look tops them all – who doesn’t love a throwback fashion reference?
