Evander Holyfield calls out Mike Tyson again with dig at infamous ‘bite fight’
Evander Holyfield is still keen on a trilogy fight with Mike Tyson.
There were rumours suggesting the pair would lock horns again last year, but after Holyfield’s crushing loss to Vitor Belfort in September, any potential fight with the Baddest man on the Planet was put on the backburner.
Now ‘The Real Deal’ has tried to rekindle the talk of a fight with his former rival and even mentioned the ear bite as his reasoning in a post on social media.
Holyfield said: “It was a pleasure bringing Tony Robbins into my world. We talked about training, family, faith, inspiration, and my plan for the future. We also talked about a potential Holyfield vs. Tyson III fight.
Adding: “Getting back in my rhythm just waiting on my dance partner now Mike Tyson to show up. Where you at?”
Holyfield gave an assessment of his horror fight with Belfort, who took him out in the first round, but despite the tough defeat, his focus is still firmly on Tyson.
“I wasn’t able to bounce back like I used to. I let him get too close. But he’s strong, and he pushed me, but I wasn’t hurt,” Holyfield added.
“I’m not hurt at all. Yes, I’m still interested in fighting Mike Tyson.”
Holyfield, who is now almost 60, has been encouraged by Tyson’s former trainer to no longer push for a fight for the sport’s youngest heavyweight champion, especially given the result of his last bout.
“Other major sports have a pension. I wish mine did so these great warriors wouldn’t have to do what Evander did tonight,” said Atlas after Holyfield’s last loss.
“Put a 2% tax on all the large promotions during the year that gross millions put into a fund for retired fighters. Greedy promoters wouldn’t even feel it.
He added: “Joe Louis, Ali, Holyfield, only the names change. But not the results or the sadness.”
Mike Tyson has confirmed his plans to return to ring in February next year.
He made his comeback last year in an exhibition against former heavyweight legend Roy Jones Jr last year which was pronounced a draw with the pair each earning a commemorative WBC green belt.
The event reportedly generated more than 1.6 million pay-per-view buys with Tyson understood to have earned a purse of around £7.5m and Jones approximately £2.25m.
Now Tyson has confirmed that he plans to return to the ring in February 2022 with reports that YouTube star Logan Paul could be his next opponent.
He said during his attendance at the undisputed clash between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant last night: “God willing I’ll fight again in February.”
Tyson had previously claimed he would make his return when he told The Sun : “I am going to have a return fight in February and we are pretty skeptical about the opponent, but it will be a really stimulating opponent.”
