Boxing Great Riddick Bowe’s Prophetic Vision: Mike Tyson vs. Deontay Wilder at Their Best

Deontay Wilder and Mike Tyson are both, for good reason, regarded as two of the most devastating punchers in the history of the heavyweight division.

Over 90% of the pair’s wins combined have come inside the distance, though it must be noted that Tyson’s stoppages came against a higher standard of opposition than Wilder.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ has stated in the past that he believes he would be able to stop a prime version of Tyson – however former undisputed champion Riddick Bowe explained to Seconds Out that he doesn’t agree.

“Absolutely not, I beg to differ. He [Wilder] only throws one punch. If you want to do anything with Mike, you’ve got to be able to throw three, four punch combinations like Holyfield did.”

“A guy punching like that? You can forget about it. A long right hand, that one punch is not going to do it. As a matter of fact, that would work against him because Tyson would counter it with his right hand.”

“And when Mike throws his right hand, we know what’s going to happen – he couldn’t beat Mike.”

Whether he would have been capable to get the better of ‘Iron Mike’ or not, there is no arguing that Wilder is amongst the most exciting fighters in the sport right now – when he actually fights, that is.

The Alabama favourite has boxed less than one round in two years, and there appears to be little sign of him getting back in the ring any time soon.

Drawn out negotiations for a monster clash with Anthony Joshua have once again collapsed, whilst there appears to have been little movement on an all American showdown with former unified world champion Andy Ruiz Jr.
