Back in 2009, rap group Fast Life Yungstaz released the song “Swag Surfin’.” It’s been a staple of HBCUs since it first dropped and only grew in popularity over the years as it became a regular at sporting events across the U.S.

Although “Swag Surfin’” had been a constant at Kansas City Chiefs games over the years, it became an official hype song of the eventual Super Bowl champs when a clip went viral of linebacker Willie Gay requesting it on the sidelines.

It took on a whole new level when cameras caught 14-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift singing and dancing along to the song in the suite at KC’s playoff game in Buffalo.

F.L.Y. members Vee, iMcFli and Mook joined Ryan Cameron on his radio show in Atlanta on February 21, speaking about the Taylor Swift Effect. “She’s a big help. I’ll say that much,” Mook said into the mic. “She got our streams up like 700% right now on Spotify, Apple Music.”

He goes on to say the group’s YouTube account grew by over 20 thousand new followers.

“Shout out to Tay-Tay,” F.L.Y. said. The Taylor Swift Effect is real.
