Following his victory over Lou Savarese in a swift 38 seconds during the year 2000, Mike Tyson delivered a well-known remark to Jim Gray from Showtime. However, this statement left Lennox Lewis’ mother, Violet, rather puzzled since the heavyweight champion did not have any children at the time.

In an interview with The Guardian, Lewis shared, “Upon hearing him declare that he was coming for me, I couldn’t help but think, ‘Is he serious? Doesn’t he realize that I’m the one who’s coming for him?’”

When Tyson mentioned his intention to consume Lewis’ offspring, Violet reacted with confusion, asking, “What is he talking about? You don’t have any children.”

Lewis emphasized, “I don’t engage in that crude prison slang.”

The memorable interview after the fight, during which Tyson proudly proclaimed himself as ‘the greatest of all time,’ will always be remembered as one of the most intense interviews from Iron Mike.

He expressed, “Lennox Lewis, I have every intention of facing you. I am the most formidable, aggressive, and relentless champion in history.

“Lennox claims to be a conqueror, but he falls short. I am Alexander; he cannot compare. I am truly the greatest ever.

“My fighting style is passionate, my defense is impenetrable, and my determination is unwavering.

“I desire your utmost commitment. I aim to inspire fearlessness.

In spite of Tyson’s impactful statement, their rivalry reached its conclusive end in 2002 when Lewis convincingly defeated him in the eighth round.

These two esteemed heavyweight icons had a shared history that dates back to their teenage years, during which they both excelled as amateur champions and even had the opportunity to spar with one another.

The meeting between them in the ring was almost predestined, as foreseen by Tyson’s legendary mentor, Cus D’Amato.

Reflecting on their relationship, Lewis disclosed, “We had the opportunity to truly get to know one another. We engaged in conversations, explored the town together, and even attended a dance as companions.”

“He possessed immense skill and power, evident from witnessing him effortlessly knock out opponents during training in the Catskills. I held him in high regard.

“As the moment approached, I was aware that our paths would inevitably cross inside the ring. I was eager to ascertain the veracity of Cus’s words.”
