In the world of celebrity allegiances, there are friendships—and then there is Taylor Swift’s squad, a highly publicized group so elite that it comes with having your own professional pH๏τographer on hand just to capture all of the memories. There are trips to oceanside summer houses, cameos in music videos, appearances at tour stops—there are so many obligations that come with being a squad member that it’s almost a career in itself. One person, however, who is completely fine with never adding that to their resume is Hailey Baldwin.

Considering her model pedigree and existing friendships with everyone from Kendall Jenner to Swift’s best friend Selena Gomez, you might ᴀssume that Baldwin is a shoo-in for the job. Apparently, though, she’s not interested—and she doesn’t even understand the need for Swift’s squad to exist.

“I don’t know what having a squad means,” she recently told Yahoo’s Be, while promoting her debut line of cosmetics with ModelCo, speaking for the silent majority out there wondering the same. “I don’t understand the Taylor Swift squad at all.”

Sure, Baldwin has her own group of friends, but the 20-year-old doesn’t feel compelled to catalog their existence. “I just have my friends and that’s it,” said Baldwin, who often posts pictures of her friends like Bella Hadid on Instagram, without feeling the need to label her inner circle. “I don’t think that you need to create a public squad. I don’t know what that proves.” Now would be the time to erase any expectations of Baldwin appearing in a future Swift music video.
