Over the last few years, the 27-year-old Lipa has experienced a level of career success that can take decades for some pop idols. Lipa’s 2020 LP “Future Nostalgia” dominated the pop charts and swept through award season; the album, which was released around the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, earned a Grammy win for Best Pop Vocal album!
Last year Lipa teamed up with Sir Elton John on the incredibly successful “Cold Heart” for his album “The Lockdown Sessions,” which seemed to be a collaboration written in the stars for Lipa. Lipa expressed her elation over the opportunity to collaborate with the musical legend to Stephen Colbert.
She told the late-night talk show host, “‘Rocket Man’ is my driving song, it’s my shower song, it’s my song I sing aloud to myself… when I got asked to sing that part, I was like, ‘OK, it was just meant to be.” (via American Songwriter)
Lipa seems more than determined to continue her streak of mᴀssive career success stories.
Lately, the “Don’t Start Now” singer has started to think about the future, and lay the groundwork for the public to prepare themselves for her next chapter.
It turns out Lipa’s fans are also thinking about the singer’s future as well! Recently, through the arbitrary powers of social media, she was compared to Cher, and a Twitter moment for the ages ensued.
According to our report on the hilariously random moment, a fan bestowed a major accolade onto Lipa, proclaiming she was “The Cher of our generation.”
However, the 76-year-old singer and actress was not too fond of the comparison.
Cher, who is an active Twitter user, responded, “How many yrs are in a generation?” and included a skeptical-looking emoji in her tweet.
There’s no word on whether Cher’s comments have reached the pop star and podcast host, but even if they have, Lipa likely isn’t paying much attention. She is busy thinking about ushering in a new era of her musical career!
Lipa has slowly been revealing tidbits about her record throughout 2022.
According to a tweet from Pop Crave, she gave insight into the album’s progression to BBC News.
“It’s now really starting to take shape,” she began, “Maybe something will come out next year, but I’m saying ‘maybe’ with caution. I have to feel really, really good about it before I plan to put anything out.”
She recently elaborated on the record’s progress and her excitement for how the LP is shaping up, in an interview with Vogue Australia.
“As I’m writing my new album, I feel completely liberated in a completely different way,” she explained to the publication via American Songwriter. “And in even more control than I thought,” she added.
Listeners shouldn’t expect Lipa’s new record to sound like her previous smash hit, “Future Nostalgia.”
“[The new album] has a vision, it has a name, I think- for now. It’s just been fun experimenting. I’m always going to make pop music, but it has its own unique sound,” she revealed via a profile from The Wall Street Journal via American Songwriter, “which is exciting.”
Lipa is also prioritizing taking her time in creating an album she can be proud of. She stressed in the interview she “was in no rush to release an album.”
In the meantime, while waiting patiently for Dua Lipa’s new album, fans can check out her newsletter and podcast, “Dua Lipa: At Your Service.”
