“Not to say that these guys wouldn’t be outstanding,” Bradshaw said in the interview. “Say if Mahomes played for Pittsburgh, his numbers… I don’t think they’d be any different because they just, you know, when you average 19 passes a game, they’re not going to be any different. They do 19 passes in the first two series now.” The veteran QB also shared his opinion on the recent SB win by the Chiefs.
Bradshaw was on ‘The Rich Eisen Show’ and shared his views on the current football scenario. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ legendary quarterback was the first overall pick in the 1970 NFL Draft. His 212 touchdowns and 27,989 yards in 14 seasons immortalized his name in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Bradshaw shared that he feels that nowadays, players have the advantage of showcasing their best performance. The strategy and plays are much more evolved, allowing players to better their record numbers. He further confessed that he wishes he could play in this decade to achieve his full potential.
“I know just a different era,” Bradshaw admitted and spoke about his confession to his wife Tamy. “I wish I’d played in this era so that I could have, you know, proven that I’m not a 52% completion guy. I’m much higher than I would be with the offense as they run and could throw for all the yardage and have all the touchdowns, and then everybody is, oh man, he was so good.” Thus, he hinted at how football has changed a lot.
The four-time Super Bowl winner has the experience of playing against and with some of the greatest names in the NFL, including Bart Starr. Talking about this year’s Super Bowl, where the Kansas City Chiefs won against the San Francisco 49ers, Bradshaw feels it was all defense. “I know America sitting back there going, ‘Boy, this is boring,’ but it was so good to watch and see the strategy and how great both defenses were, quick to the ball. I mean, if you like great football, that was great football.”
Terry Bradshaw’s opinions about today’s NFL testify to its popularity. It’s the increased devotion, strategies, and game plan involved, along with talented stars like Patrick Mahomes, that make football one of the most popular sports today.
Terry Bradshaw versus Patrick Mahomes
Bradshaw has played about 168 games in his career, whereas Mahomes has played 96. The former is a Hall of Famer with four Super Bowl wins and two SB MVPs, while Mahomes has three SB wins with three SB MVP mentions. Further, Mahomes won six Pro Bowls; that’s three more than Bradshaw. However, would the veteran be able to compete in today’s NFL if he were in his prime?
Seems difficult. The game today is fast and quite advanced because of the changes the league has implemented over the years. But back in the day, Bradshaw was outstanding. Did you know he was the first player selected in the 1970 National Football League draft?
While Bradshaw’s stats may not look that impressive today, football fans may remember that he played during a time when quarterbacks had it tough and receivers had a strenuous time searching for an opening. Compared to the 1970s, it is easier to score points today.
Do you think Terry Bradshaw would be a great quarterback today if he were in his prime? Let us know in the comments below.
