Reports about the unexpected passing of LeBron James recently caught the NBA world off guard and generated a phenomenal amount of attention. As many NBA fans should certainly be aware, King James is a 4x NBA champion and widely regarded by fans to be the greatest player in the history of the league.

In case fans are wondering if there is any truth to these reports, they can rest assured upon learning that this report comes under a list of fake news. In order to prevent this news from gaining too much momentum and confusing fans, several reports have debunked the rumor of LeBron’s death.

These reports claim that a Facebook account spread the false news of the NBA star’s death, captioning the post, “At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (January 06, 2024), our beloved basketball player LeBron James passed away. LeBron James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

Fake reports of such nature have become quite frequent with the increased use of social media by members of the basketball community. In fact, it might interest fans to hear that LeBron is not the only NBA star to have been declared ‘dead’ without any valid basis.

Michael Jordan has also fallen prey to a death hoax in the past

It turns out that both the GOATs of basketball have been reported dead by fake social media accounts. Even Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, who is still alive and well at the moment has not been spared from the fake death rumors.

Fans might even be amused to hear that the exact same captions and wordings were used to describe both Jordan’s and LeBron’s deaths. This also reveals that the owners of these fake social media accounts are merely engaging in this form of behavior for likes and comments.

After all, likes and comments can turn into financial revenue if doled out in large quantities. Although a few fans might have fallen for these death reports, one can only hope that the rest didn’t take these reports at face value and did their own research before interacting with these fake reports.
