Emma Stone was joined by Amanda Bynes, an actress who has been a part of many controversies. After the screening of Easy A, Amanda Bynes had a much different reaction than the rest present there. The actress absolutely resented watching herself in the film which led to her retiring from acting. Later, Amanda Bynes blamed her reaction on her struggle with substance abuse.

In 2010, Amanda Bynes pulled out of Hall Pass and was replaced by Alexandra Daddario, a move she credits to her substance abuse and mental health issues. She told PAPER that she would chew on Adderall tablets on the set due to which she would not be able to remember her lines. She also added that she ran off the set when she looked at herself on the screen and didn’t like what she saw.

“[I remember] seeing my image on the screen and literally tripping out and thinking my arm looked so fat because it was in the foreground or whatever and I remember rushing off set and thinking, Oh my god, I look so bad.”

Her body image issues grew worse in the Emma Stone-starrer, Easy A. Bynes recalled that she couldn’t stand her own appearance after attending the screening of the film. This eventually pushed the actress into retirement.

“I literally couldn’t stand my appearance in that movie and I didn’t like my performance. I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it. I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason it really started to affect me. I don’t know if it was a drug-induced psychosis or what, but it affected my brain in a different way than it affects other people. It absolutely changed my perception of things.”

Afterward, Bynes had made up her mind that she needed to retire from the industry and she took an unconventional route to do so – Twitter. In a now-deleted tweet, Bynes wrote, “Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem.” She told PAPER that she later realized that it was a “stupid” move and that she should’ve done it more professionally, like in a press statement.

In the 2018 interview with PAPER, Bynes revealed that she had been completely sober for four years giving the credit to her parents for helping her navigate the tough time in her life. She also had a piece of advice for those struggling with drugs: “My advice to anyone who is struggling with substance abuse would be to be really careful because drugs can really take a hold of your life.”

In February 2022, the She’s All That actress filed to end her conservatorship, which was granted to her mother in 2013.  The conservatorship was officially terminated on March 22, 2022.

However, things once again turned foul for the actress on March 20, 2023. As reported by TMZ, she was placed on a 5150 psych hold after she was found roaming n*ked around downtown L.A. On June 17, 2023, Bynes called the police and told them about her feelings of self-harm. A mental health professional came to the conclusion that the actress must be placed on a psych hold, again.

According to TMZ, Bynes checked out of the mental health facility two weeks after admission and is doing better. The media outlet also reported that Bynes will be under outpatient care where a medical professional will check in on her daily.

Since Bynes’ battle with mental health has proved to stick around, we sincerely hope the actress finds her way out this time and leads a healthy life!
