Victor Wembanyama nba draft lottery party.
The San Antonio Spurs were the lucky winners of the 2023 NBA draft lottery, all but assuring they’ll come away with generational prospect Victor Wembanyama.

The 19-year-old Wembanyama has been widely regarded as the best prospect since current Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, who went first overall to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003.

On their official Twitter page, the NBA shared the live reaction from Wembanyama and his family when the Spurs were revealed as the draft lottery winners:

But on a more humorous, many NBA fans took to Twitter and teased how Wembanyama should have been provided a higher ceiling to accommodate his ginormous height of 7-foot-5. Just look at how close his head is to the ceiling while he stands up:

The Spurs, Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets shared the best odds of winning this year’s lottery with 14.0 percent chances apiece. The Charlotte Hornets were next with odds of 12.50 percent, followed by the Portland Trail Blazers at 10.50 percent.

2023 marks the first year the Spurs will hold the first overall pick since 1997, when they took future MVP, Hall of Famer and five-time NBA Champion Tim Duncan fifth overall. The Spurs also picked first overall in 1987, landing a future franchise face in David Robinson.

San Antonio won five NBA championships and reached the finals six times from 1999 to 2014, but they have finished below .500 in each of the last four years. But for the first time since their trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2017, the future is finally looking bright in Spurs land.
