Yet, the $535 million franchise will be ending soon. And ever since the announcement fans have been giving hilarious reactions to the news.

From its unique concept of every crime being legal for 12 hours once a year to its provocative narrative based on societal commentary, The Purge franchise has become one of the most famous movies in the horror-thriller genre. Its blend of horror elements with themes like social divide and government corruption has contributed massively to the franchise’s popularity.

Yet the Ethan Hawke starrer franchise has run its course and its sixth movie will be its final one. In an interview with Screen Rant, Frank Grillo revealed how the script for the final installment is already done and will be based on his character, Leo Barnes.

“The script is done. It basically centers around Leo Barnes, my character. It would be the last of the last of the last, it’s like the guy who keeps retiring. James DeMonaco is going to direct it, if it happens, and it’s a matter of money. It’s a matter of how big they want the movie to be, how much money they want to spend on the movie, considering they’ve done a lot in this franchise. But it’s a great script.”

The $535 million franchise (via The Numbers), has so far received mixed reactions and fans reckon that the subsequent movies have not been as good as the first movie. So while loyal fans of the franchise will be disappointed to say goodbye to it, it would be better for The Purge franchise to go out while it still has some fuel left.
