Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy arguably remain the most popular and controversial couple in the history of the NBA. Their 17-year-long came to an end in 2006 and resulted in the largest divorce settlement. Jordan and Vanoy‘s marriage and divorce remained in the headlines for decades. Everything including their little or major disagreements took everyone by storm.

Their turbulent marriage was not a secret, and everyone likely saw the divorce coming. Notably, Vanoy was present and supported Jordan throughout his career. This is why her absence from the docuseries ‘The Last Dance‘ made fans furious. As Jordan’s popularity significantly grew, it dragged his whole family into the public eye which forced them to buy a $14.9 million mansion.

Furthermore, Jordan has three children, Jeffrey Jordan, Marcus Jordan, and Jasmine Jordan with his first wife Vanoy. Out of this, Jeffrey was born out of wedlocks and His Airness pleaded with the media to keep his birth a secret. Notably, Vanoy and Jordan have also revealed that it was difficult for them to break the news of their divorce to the children.

Additionally, Jordan once spoke about one of the major disagreements that the two had. He revealed, “I’m more down-home Southern, Juanita’s more city-like.” The Bulls star continued to talk about how when his good friends came over, the two had different takes. Jordan wouldn’t mind them staying over and sleeping on the floor. “That’s a Southern attitude,” he added. Whereas, Vanoy believed that they were grown men who could check in a hotel.

Michael Jordan was afraid of Juanita Vanoy

Michael Jordan famously won a three-peat twice during his illustrious 15-year-long NBA career. After his first three-peat in 1993, Jordan in an interview talked about how things were at home. He said that his wife (now ex-wife) is the head of the household.

Furthermore, he revealed, “And in some ways, I am kinda afraid of her.” Jordan explained that it is not to the point that where he won’t go outside or do anything. It is ironic how despite being afraid of her, Jordan allegedly cheated on her multiple times. This is said to be one of the reasons for their divorce, apart from his famous gambling habit that he refused to believe to be a problem.

Additionally, upon being asked if Vanoy is the boss of the house, Jordan replied, “She’s the boss, but she doesn’t make jump shots, that’s the difference.” Interestingly, Vanoy played basketball herself during high school which is likely the reason behind her initial attraction towards Jordan. Notably, the two met just a year after Jordan played his debut game. Their marriage was filled with ups and downs, which eventually ended with them parting ways.
