“That’d be… Crazy good”: Keanu Reeves Wants John Wick Crossover With Denzel Washington’s $383M Franchise

The Internet’s favorite action star Keanu Reeves gave another blockbuster earlier this year with John Wick: Chapter 4. The apparent final chapter of the titular character John Wick’s fight for freedom from the High Table opened amazing reviews and grossed over $430 million at the box office.

While plans for a fifth film are still in development, Keanu Reeves is set to return as Wick in the spin-off film Ballerina. The film will also star Ana De Armas. However, the actor stated that he is open to the possibility of another spin-off film, this time a crossover with another iconic action franchise from Denzel Washington.

The Keanu Reeves starring John Wick franchise has redefined the action genre in many ways. The films with their extensive set of rules were a refreshing change in the action genre after the shaky camera and quick-cut style of action that was popularized by Paul Greengrass’ Bourne franchise.

The films have gained a cult following while also receiving huge box-office success. Each film has gotten only bigger than the last, with respect to scale as well as world-building. An underground network of assassins operating through star hotels called the Continental, having their own lines of communication and currency was the perfect setting for franchise building.

After the success of his latest (and possibly last) adventure in John Wick: Chapter 4, the character seems to have gotten a well-deserved break. However, the franchise is still going strong. Lionsgate, the studio behind the franchise, is developing two spin-off projects. The first is a miniseries titled The Continental set before the events of the films and will be focussing on a younger version of Winston Scott, who was played by Ian McShane in the films. The three-episode series is set in the 1970s and will star Mel Gibson.

The second spin-off is a film titled Ballerina. The film would focus on the Russian Ballerina assassins who made an appearance in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The film will be directed by Len Wiseman and will feature Knives Out star Ana De Armas in the titular role. Set between the events of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the film will also see an appearance from Keanu Reeves as John Wick. While these updates are exciting, the fans are hoping for another massive team-up film, where John Wick would team up with Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer.

Does Keanu Reeves Want A Crossover Between John Wick And The Equalizer?

Before the release of John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves hosted an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on Reddit to promote the upcoming film. On being asked if there were plans to team up with Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall from The Equalizer franchise, the Matrix actor addressed the idea. While mentioning that there were no such plans at the moment, he also said,

“Ha…no…that would be crazy. Crazy good!”

Along with John WickThe Equalizer series is also a franchise that has a loyal fanbase. The two films have collectively earned over $380 million at the global box office and a third part titled The Equalizer 3 is all set to release on September 1. The Antoine Fuqua-directed series sees Denzel Washington as a former marine turned DIA spy Robert McCall, returning from retirement to save a teenage prostitute.

The action in the films was heavily praised, along with its style and Washington’s performance. While fans were extremely happy with Keanu Reeves’ enthusiasm for the crossover, the film is very unlikely to materialize. The Equalizer 3 is set to be the last film in the franchise and with John Wick: Chapter 4 putting a temporary stop on the character’s journey, there is no saying if this project would ever be considered.
