The course of decisions made by the team’s owner leave him with no other choice

The decisions made by the Dallas Cowboys during the draft and so far in free agency give reason to believe that team owner Jerry Jones is willing to “overpay” quarterback Dak Prescott again.
That’s what reporters Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, two well-known NFL analysts, said during an appearance on The Ric Eisen Show.
Rapoport and Pelissero discussed the Cowboys’ post-draft situation. Their analysis looked at how they will fill the remaining holes on the team.
Pelissero noted how the Cowboys needed to address the open position at left tackle, center and defensive end. For his part, Rapoport noted that whatever the Cowboys have done to this point is “pretty normal” for them.
“To me it’s a pretty normal offseason and I know it sounds strange because everybody’s losing their minds because they haven’t signed any big-name, but this is what the Cowboys do. They draft, they develop, they get really good players, they pay them a lot of money, usually to their own players, and they don’t sign a lot of free agents,” Rapoport said.
“I don’t know how many holes you have as a staff. They just did it in a way that everybody would like, because you’d like to draft guys, develop them, pay the really good ones, let the ones that are pretty good get overpaid in free agency, replace them with younger guys that are also really good but a lot cheaper and then they do the cycle all over again,” the reporter added.
The statement seems like a reminder that the next player to be “overpaid” will be Dak Prescott in the coming months, especially after Jerry Jones revealed his plan.
The dilemma of whether or not to pay Prescott
The plan gets complicated when it has to do with the quarterback position. While the team is looking at younger players to fill the position and already has Trey Lance in mind as Prescott’s successor, it’s not that simple.
“We believe Lance is a good addition. He’s looking ahead to address the depth at the position. I have him in this draft as if he’s a draft pick for us,” Jones said in recent days.
Despite this, it is believed that the complexity of the position would lead Jones to offer another multi-million dollar contract to Prescott, who can be faulted for little in regular season performance, but has repeatedly failed in the playoffs.
Even during his previous deal, it was felt that Jones jumped the gun in renewing Dak and did so by making him one of the highest paid in the NFL.
