The new contract extension for Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid cements his status as the NFL‘s top playcaller and team leader for years to come. Reid will be in Kansas City at least through 2029, and that gives the 66-year-old plenty more chances to add to his legacy as the Chiefs‘ coach.

Alongside Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones, Reid has been one of the pillars of the Chiefs’ 2020s dynasty. Kansas City’s three Super Bowl wins in the past five seasons — all before quarterback Mahomes has turned 30 years old — gives the franchise an incredible platform to continue winning for the rest of this decade, giving Reid a shot at ending his career as the NFL’s winningest coach.

Entering the 2024 season, Reid has 258 career regular-season victories, which is 70 wins behind record-holder Don Shula. Reid would have to average 12 victories per season between 2024 and 2029 to catch Shula — which is within the realm of possibility, seeing as the Chiefs have won at least 12 games in five of the past six seasons.

Reid’s 26 postseason victories are only five fewer than Bill Belichick, the all-time leader in the category and a coach who will not be roaming an NFL sideline in 2024. On average, the Chiefs have won 2.5 postseason games per season while Mahomes has been their quarterback.
