Bill Belichick’s passion for lacrosse extends beyond his illustrious football career.

The former New England Patriots head coach has deep roots in lacrosse, having played the sport both in high school and college. Remarkably, all three of Belichick’s children also embraced lacrosse during their school years, with his daughter Amanda now coaching women’s lacrosse at Holy Cross.

Belichick’s fondness for lacrosse was evident during his tenure with the Patriots, where he often referenced the sport in press conferences and recruited former lacrosse players like Chris Hogan to join the team.

Belichick out of the NFL for the first time since the 1970s

Now, amid his first year in decades without an NFL coaching role, Belichick recently attended a women’s lacrosse game between Northwestern University and Ohio State. A photo posted on the program’s social media account captured Belichick alongside Northwestern’s head coach, Kelly Amonte Hiller, both sporting matching team jackets and purple hats.

Belichick and Amonte Hiller share a longstanding connection dating back nearly two decades. Their relationship began in 2007 when Amonte Hiller sought advice from Belichick as Northwestern prepared for the NCAA tournament. Despite her initial disbelief, Amonte Hiller was pleasantly surprised when Belichick personally returned her call.

Reflecting on their first conversation, Amonte Hiller admitted to GQ Sports, “I thought someone was messing with me, but it was really him.” Since then, they have maintained a professional rapport, with Amonte Hiller serving as a mentor to Belichick’s daughter as she pursued a coaching career in lacrosse.

While Belichick remains job-free in 2024 after achieving six Super Bowl victories with the Patriots, he continues to stay active. During his recent visit to Illinois, Belichick was also spotted at a White Sox baseball game.

Earlier, he served as a keynote speaker at a coaching clinic hosted by the University of Washington and observed one of the team’s spring practices during his visit to the campus. These activities underscore Belichick’s enduring passion for sports and coaching, even in the absence of a current NFL role.
