Deion Sanders is a true showman. The Buffs head coach knows exactly what to say in press conferences, keeping his fans hooked on the last word of his response.
But what about being a showman at work in college football programs? It remains one of the most-discussed, rather dissed upon topics in the CFB world. Did Deion Sanders change the culture of college football in Colorado and Jackson State? The effects were surely visible. However, could he have done better than what he did in Colorado in the last season?
The Athletic’s Ali Wasserman picked the ‘against’ side of the debate. “Deion Sanders, his qualifications for being a college football coach at all is stardom,” he stated, claiming the marketing status quo that Deion Sanders has as of now is a result of his “half ass*d work”. ” “Imagine if he actually embraced this and did it completely and fully how good he actually could be,” proposed Wasserman, scratching the surface of the further possibilities that Deion Sanders could unlock.
These claims come after several analysts thrashed Deion Sanders for his unorthodox recruiting style. Despite having a budget of $200,000 and a private jet at his disposal, Deion Sanders refuses to travel to high schools to recruit students. “I’m Deion Sanders,” he said as an explanation.
“He won’t go visit kids and seems disinterested in recruiting high school classes,” Wasserman claimed, breaking down the possibility of Deion doing this. It would only result in shooting Colorado’s fame, revenue, and the talent of the Buffs’ roster up, unlocking unfathomable potential and CU dominating almost all of their competitor teams. While Wasserman, along with most others from the analyst circle, fired some pretty burning accusations at Deion Sanders, Prime had his fellow Hall of Famers by his side.
Jerry Rice to Deion Sanders’ defense
It was none other than Jerry Rice fighting for Deion Sanders from the ‘for’ side in the debate. Rice held strong to his contradictory view than the one swirling around in the CFB world. Talking to Keyshawn Johnson in his All Facts No Breaks podcast, Jerry Rice showered Sanders with compliments on his ways of work.
“I think Deion did a fantastic job at Jackson State. I think he brought recognition. He changed the culture there,” Rice stated. Rice didn’t seem to have any complaints, even when it came to Sanders’ period at Colorado. “He went to Colorado and did exceptional things there,” The Hall of Famer further added. Deion Sanders’ has simply brought a tornado of unorthodox methods by bending the rules to do things as per him.
This might be a blaring alarm for the analysts, but people like Jerry Rice, who have seen many rule-benders in their career, might find some potential in it. So pick your sides of the debate wisely and drop your opinions in the comments.
