Tiger Woods ended his 27-year-long partnership with Nike in January. Before the Genesis Invitational, the veteran golfer launched his new sponsor, Sun Day Red, a collaboration between Woods and his equipment sponsor, TaylorMade Golf. While the apparel line was revealed earlier, the white kicks made their way only to Augusta.

Previously, the 15-time Major champion favored Footjoy kicks. Limited mobility was the reason behind ditching Nike in favor of Footjoy. The kicks, he explained, were well-suited to his needs after the 2021 car crash. Even Charlie Woods, too, was spotted in FootJoy a couple of times before. But now that Tiger Woods has picked Sun Day Red, Charlie seems to have switched back to Nike rather than following in his father’s footsteps.

However, with his new Sun Day Red sneakers, Woods struggled to maintain steady momentum yesterday. Less than 24 hours after creating history by making his 24th consecutive Masters cut, Woods carded his worst round at the majors. The veteran golfer picked up seven bogeys and two double bogeys, eventually wrecking at 10-over 82. Even in the fourth round, the 48-year-old closed his first nine at 40.

Notably, Tiger Woods also played 23 holes on a marathon 10-hour Friday. That tolled his body, as his legs seemed to give up on Saturday. In addition, hiking the slopes of Augusta National only made it worse. Sun Day Red Kicks didn’t seem to alleviate the situation either.

Moreover, two months after the highly anticipated shake-up, fans are yet to accept Sun Day Red wholeheartedly. The first time Woods appeared with his new apparel—a salmon-colored tee—it instantly became the eyesore of golf fans.

As many pointed out, the 15 stripes, symbolic of his 15 major victories, depicting a leaping tiger were in poor taste. Then there was also the case of keeping ‘Sun’ and ‘Day’ as two different words. Now, it seems Charlie Woods’s choice differs significantly from his father’s.
