“I was on my way to a session and it hit me,” Gwen, 54, said of the new song in an Instagram video.

“It was like, Purple Irises. That’s the song.”

Gwen admitted that the love song, sung by her and her husband, is about her insecurities.

“And I actually wrote, put it in my phone, and drove into the driveway and went in and started writing this song about being insecure,” she said.

GETTING REAL

Gwen went on to further explain that her insecurities stemmed from her age and the idea of someone else getting in the way of her relationship.

“I knew the day I wrote Purple Irises I needed to be truthful to myself and write this song about, I’m getting older, I don’t feel pretty.”

“If I don’t feel pretty, how could someone else think I’m pretty still?” Gwen asked herself.

“What if somebody tries to take my love away from me?” she continued.

“I really wanted to show how insecure I could feel.”

Fans praised Gwen in the comments and thanked her for being so authentic with her followers.

“So relatable. Insecurities can get the best of us and it’s comforting to know even Gwen Stefani feels that way sometimes too,” one person wrote.

“Love you for being real !!! Great song,” another shared.

After writing the song, Gwen said she played it for Blake and asked if he would join her on it.

While Gwen understood that the two had completely different styles — with Gwen as a pop singer and Blake as a country star — it all “made sense in her brain.”

The GXVE founder said she always wants to work with her husband, adding that the opportunity is a part of her “dream fantasy world.”

The Instagram clip was backed by an acoustic version of the couple’s duet.

The couple, who married in 2021 after meeting as coaches on The Voice, released the song amid speculation that they had been struggling in their marriage.

Gwen and Blake’s fans found clues that raised speculation, including snubbing each other’s posts, cryptic lyrics, and ditching each other for a night out.

The two spent much of their time apart in recent weeks, especially with Blake on his Back to the Honky Tonk tour and Gwen gearing up for her upcoming Coachella performance.

In early February, an insider told Life & Style that their relationship had gotten “frustrating,” adding that they “used to be inseparable, but that’s changed.”

BACK ON TRACK

However, the pair has been squashing rumors left and right, as Gwen has made multiple appearances on his nationwide tour over the past few weeks.

Last weekend, the No Doubt frontwoman made a surprise appearance at Blake’s concert in Glendale, Arizona.

During his set, Blake brought out his wife to sing their duets Happy Anywhere, Nobody But You, and Purple Irises.

Gwen also appeared at Blake’s shows in Lafayette, Louisiana, Houston, Texas, and Edmonton, Alberta.

The pop star recently gave fans a glimpse into her Oklahoma life with Blake, which showed a sweet behind-the-scenes look at their home.
