It appears Steve Harvey has achieved what he wants in his career and made most (if not all) of his dreams possible. He first became popular in the 80s as a comedian and has evolved into the megastar he is today. He is considered one of the nicest guys in showbiz. So it would be hard to imagine how he treats his guests and contestants on his show differently from how he treats his staff, right?

Except he has been making headlines for a note passed to his staff that doesn’t portray him in the nicest light…

What Is Steve Harvey Like As A Boss?

We haven’t personally worked for Steve Harvey, so it would be irresponsible to speculate what he is like as a boss all the time. However, a note has been going around, which was shared on Robert Feder’s blog (via Variety), that Harvey had allegedly sent to his employees. As for when this message was sent? Variety reports that it was ahead of filming in Chicago for the Steve Harvey Show’s fifth season.

“Good morning, everyone. Welcome back. I’d like you all to review and adhere to the following notes and rules for Season 5 of my talk show,” the note began.

“There will be no meetings in my dressing room. No stopping by or popping in. NO ONE. Do not come to my dressing room unless invited. Do not open my dressing room door. IF YOU OPEN MY DOOR, EXPECT TO BE REMOVED. My security team will stop everyone from standing at my door who have the intent to see or speak to me. I want all the ambushing to stop now. That includes TV staff. You must schedule an appointment.”

Is this a way for Steve Harvey to create personal boundaries? Could he be trying to filter out the noise, so he can better focus before the start of a show? Some would say that his request is not such a big ask. But others would disagree entirely and say that being unable to approach someone is downright rude. The message continues, with Harvey explaining his reasons for adopting this new policy.

“I have been taken advantage of by my lenient policy in the past. This ends now. NO MORE. Do not approach me while I’m in the makeup chair unless I ask to speak with you directly,” the note reads.

“Either knock or use the doorbell. I am seeking more free time for me throughout the day. Do not wait in any hallway to speak to me. I hate being ambushed. Please make an appointment. I promise you I will not entertain you in the hallway, and do not attempt to walk with me. If you’re reading this, yes, I mean you…”

Would you be offended if this was a message from your boss? Because Harvey finished the message by asking his staff not to take offense and added, “It is for the good of my personal life and enjoyment.”

While it may have come as a shock to many to receive such a note, do we really know what someone is going through in their personal life? Could he not have needed a break, and this was his way of doing it? After all, Steve Harvey has been in the industry for a long time.

What Has Steve Harvey Said About Ellen DeGeneres?

Another person who has made headlines for the treatment of their employees is Ellen DeGeneres. She has been accused of being very difficult to work for and that the workplace was “toxic.” Some also feel she has taken her interviews too far and made her quests feel uncomfortable.

A former employee told Buzzfeed News: “That ‘be kind’ bulls*** only happens when the cameras are on. It’s all for show. I know they give money to people and help them out, but it’s for show.”

Steve Harvey previously came to DeGeneres’ defense.

He told People, “I’m going to say this about it: Ellen DeGeneres, the person that I know, that I’ve known for a number of years, that I saw back in the comedy club days, when we used to split time with the same management, all of this and what’s happening now, Ellen, the person, is probably one of the coolest and kindest people I’ve met in this business.”

He also addressed reports that she was allegedly racist. “I’m a 63-year-old black man. I’ve been black the entire time. I ain’t took no days off. I ain’t experimented with nothing else. I ain’t got nothing else going. I’ve been a black dude my whole life. I know racism,” he said.

“If I have a conversation with you, I know if you got racist tendency somewhere in you, because it radiates. I can feel it. I’ve been around a long time, man. That’s not Ellen DeGeneres. That’s just not her, period. You make it like that if you want to. But if you try to make it that way, it’s because you don’t know her. I know her. And that’s the feeling I have.”
