Keith Olbermann wants Stephen A. Smith fired after defending Donald Trump
The former ESPN host went off on social media against his former company calling for a punishment

Stephen A. Smith has always been a controversial sports commentator. Whether on the show “First Take” or his own program named after him, his high tone of voice pairs perfectly with his opinions.
As with many other topics, a great number of people don’t agree with him, but this time the main subject was not about any trending sports story. Last week, Stephen A. appeared on Fox News and defended Donald Trump, stating there was some truth in his comments about how Black Americans can relate to his legal issues.
People didn’t take it well. Here’s what he said: “As much as people may have been abhorred by Donald Trump’s statement weeks ago, talking about how he’s hearing that Black folks find him relatable because of what he is going through is similar to what Black Americans have gone through, he wasn’t lying; he was telling the truth.”
A former ESPN host also raised his voice
Keith Olbermann had something to say. The former “SportsCenter” host took to his social media accounts to express his thoughts on the matter and didn’t hold back: “So why is today’s ESPN letting Smith do it? Why is he campaigning for Trump on Fox News? ESPN must make him choose between advocating for a despot or keeping his job saying nothing particularly relevant about sports-not both. And I’d insist on the same either/or if he were campaigning for Biden.”
After a constant wave of criticism over his comments, Stephen A. Smith looked to clarify what he meant on his social media platforms: “Quite a few folks were offended as my words were interpreted as associating support for Trump by the Black community with all the legal issues he’s facing. For that, I sincerely apologize. I’m stating right here for the record that I was taken out of context.”
Will this get him fired? Highly unlikely; it’s not the first time Stephen has made a controversial comment on a controversial subject. Can he receive punishment for his comments? It’s possible, but nothing that would create a scandal; he is too valuable for ESPN.
