Patrick Mahomes is an elite athlete. Without his arm strength and athleticism, he wouldn’t have been able to rewrite the history books and win three Super Bowls by the age of 28.

Although it might surprise some, baseball was actually Mahomes’ favorite sport growing up. It makes sense when you consider his father played in MLB.

Patrick Mahomes wants to spend spring training with Kansas City Royals

During an interview with Time Magazine, Mahomes revealed that he actually wants to give baseball a shot at some point over the next few years.

Baseball was my first love… I’ve talked to the Royals. And if I can maybe go out to a spring training, I’m not opposed to that. I’ll get it approved by the Chiefs… But maybe one of these years I go out there and see what I got.

Mahomes also revealed that his career plan always involved baseball. His goal was to attend college, play three years of football followed by three years of baseball and then re-enter the MLB Draft.

Mahomes had been drafted by the Detroit Tigers out of high school, but chose to go to Texas Tech instead. Although Mahomes impressed as a baseball player when he was younger, his NFL head coach, Andy Reid, is not fully onboard with his spring training plan; at least not yet.

I haven’t even thought about that. You’re hitting me with a pretty big one right there. He was a heck of a baseball player. I’m sure he can play in the major leagues. I mean, he’s pretty gifted. He’d have to take me as a manager.

Thankfully for Reid, Mahomes is still fully locked in on bringing more Lombardi Trophies to the Chiefs’ cabinet.
