Jaafar teased on Friday that the filming for the biopic is set to start today, writing on Instagram, “The Journey Starts Monday.”

The 27-year-old also posted a black and white pic of himself dressed as Michael, doing the singer’s iconic toe stand. The image was taken by Jafaar’s half-brother, Jourdynn.

The official Michael Jackson Instagram account also posted the pic with the caption, “He’s ready!”

Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International confirmed earlier this month that principal photography for the film was scheduled to start on 22 January, according to E!.

Jaafar previously posted a picture of himself dressed as Michael on 30 January 2023, with the caption, “I’m humbled and honoured to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.”

The 9-year-old actor Juliano Krue Valdi will also portray a young Michael Jackson in the film.

“Valdi will play the young Michael Jackson as he and his brothers rise to fame as the Jackson 5,” Lionsgate shared in a press release.

The biopic is set to come out on 18 April 2025, according to USA Today.

A description from Lionsgate stated that the film presents the singer’s “triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale – from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, captured by his most iconic performances.”
