The new Chiefs signing is getting ready for his debut season in the NFL

Louis Rees-Zammit is getting himself acquainted with his new surroundings and team-mates after joining the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2024 season. The Welshman recently announced he had signed with the Super Bowl LVIII champions and is preparing for his debut campaign in the NFL by attending extra workout sessions ahead of the start of the offseason.

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been hosting workouts and throwing sessions with his team-mates as they begin their bid for a Super Bowl hat-trick.

Several players have been spotted working with Mahomes and co. in Texas over the past two weeks after enjoying a lengthy break.

The latest to join the group of players is Rees-Zammit, who left his rugby career with Saracens and Wales behind in pursuit of a pro football career in the NFL.

He is set to play as part of their offensive setup, combining that with a special teams role. And he needs all the practice he can get before his debut, after making the bold decision to switch sports.

Fortunately, Mahomes is on hand to help. Bobby Stroupe, Mahomes’ longtime trainer, posted a group photo of the players putting in the hard yards on Friday.

The group included a trio of Chiefs QBs, Patrick Mahomes, Chris Oladokun and Ian Book, with a group of receivers – tight end Noah Gray and wide receivers Skyy Moore, Anthony Miller, and Nikko Remigio – also present.

A warm welcome for Rees-Zammit

Rees-Zammit clearly wanted his new fans to recognize his efforts, posting several images on his personal Instagram account from the session with a singular steam-out-of-nose emoji summing up his exhausting exercises.

It may be an adjustment period for the 23-year-old, going from wales to the stardom of the NFL. But Mahomes, along with tight end Travis Kelce, have made a special effort to help him feel welcome in the United States.

“Pat [Mahomes] is my best mate now,” Rees-Zammit joked. “So yeah, Pat and Travis [Kelce] messaged me, just saying, ‘Welcome to KC.’ If I ever need anything let them know. And yeah, everyone is being so welcoming to me.”
