Although it would take several decades before Steve Harvey and Marjorie would get married, their relationship timeline started decades earlier. He would first see her at a Memphis comedy club in 1987. As the story goes, Marjorie walked in late while he was performing his set, and he addressed her with some very memorable words.

“The very first thing I said to Marjorie was, ‘I don’t know who you are, but I’m going to marry you one day.’ That was the beginning,” Harvey said, according to Good Housekeeping. They did date at the time, but things did not work out in the long term for the couple.”

“When my bodyguard Boomerang handed me his phone that day in 2005, I had no idea who was on the other side of it,” he wrote. “But I recognized your voice right away, and it was the best day of my life.” They met up again a day later, and Harvey knew this time they would end up together.

When they reconnected, Harvey revealed he had not yet achieved what he wanted, writing in his letter, “Even though I was making moves, I had nothing. I was in a dark space for quite some time, and I think all the stars aligned for us at the right moment.”

“You were willing to get in that foxhole with me and grow with me,” he added.

Steve Harvey has praised his third marriage and how healthy it is. “Marjorie changed the way I existed,” he told People Magazine in a 2012 interview. “I’d never been in a healthy adult relationship. I’d never been loyal, I’d never been fully respected.”

Marjorie And Steve Harvey’s Relationship Has Handled Conflicts

Steve Harvey and his wife, Marjorie have been married since 2007, and their time together appears to be filled with love and commitment. But they have also had to defend themselves against claims that were made against them.

Harvey married his first wife, Marcia Harvey in 1981, and their relationship ended in 1994. It was not long after that he met his second wife Mary Shackelford, who he married in 1996. The former couple broke up in 2005, and it was not an amicable split. Shackelford is reported to have made false statements about Harvey, Parade reports. She also claimed that he and Marjorie had started their relationship while he was still married. A claim that has been refuted.

Marjorie was not impressed with Shackelford’s allegations and released an official statement via her lawyer (via Essence) calling her actions “nothing more than a sad attempt to Mary to make herself relevant in the eyes of the media.” The statement added, “Now that the publicity splash is over, Mrs. Harvey looks forward to making her case in court.”

Aging can be a touchy subject, especially when you are living your life in the public eye. It can be challenging to accept the changes that happen to your body and appearance, and Steve Harvey had initially intended to use dye to cover his grey hairs. He candidly spoke about this during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and addressed how he would dye his mustache.

So, what changed? This was in part thanks to the support and encouragement of his wife, Marjorie. But Harvey had initially forgotten his black hair dye at home during a vacation, and the hair started to grow out. “And next thing I knew I went, ‘Damn. This is either going to be sexy or I’m ugly as hell one of the two.'” But his wife encouraged him, with Harvey revealing she told him to “keep it.”
