Officers attended the scene at a house in Southwest Ranches, a suburban community in the Miami area, where he had been found dead by his assistant.

Davis, the former Miami DolphinsIndianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills cornerback who announced his retirement in 2018, appeared in 121 games in his career. He made the headlines in 2018 after signing a one-year contract with the Bills, only to retire midway through a game in September.

He was only 35 at the time of his death and his passing has led to some questions being asked about how it came about.

“This morning, Davie Police Officers responded to 6051 SW 178th Avenue in reference to a medical call. Officers were called to the residence by the house assistant, who found the homeowner deceased.

“We can confirm that the deceased individual is Vontae Davis age 35. Preliminary information suggests that foul play is not involved. The investigation remains active.”

On Tuesday, cleanup, restoration crews and security crews – along with detectives – were seen at the residence, which belonged to his grandmother.

Police have announced that they are not treating his death as suspicious as their investigation is still open as they look into what caused his death. At this time, there is no indication into how he passed away.

911 call reveals how he was found

Local law enforcement stated that Davis‘ personal assistant made the initial 911 call after a different woman found Davis unresponsive in the gym area of the house, according to WPLG.

“She arrived and he’s on the ground of the residence,” the assistant told 911 in the call. “She froze. He called me and she didn’t even speak – that’s why I called.

“Last time I saw him was Friday and I know that someone saw him Saturday – one of the drivers.”

The dispatcher was able to get a hold of the woman who initially made the discovery on the phone, and some portions of the conversation were redacted before being released to the public.
