Josh Brolin talks about portraying Cable compared to Thanos

During an interview with Team Deakins podcast back in 2020, the actor addressed that even though Thanos is more dangerous when compared to Cable, it was much easier to portray him on-screen. He said,

“Deadpool was hard. Even though it was funny, it was harder. That was more of a business transaction. It was more, ‘We need to make this like this,’ whereas, I didn’t feel that way with Avengers.”

He continued,

“They would constantly go back and reference Scarface or Dog Day Afternoon. Whether or not it was a manipulation, they knew what to throw out there to bring it back into something inspired.”

The actor shared that while filming as Thanos, he would play with CGI-built Thanos by himself in a motion capture suit, or one of the Russo brothers would act across from him. He added at the time,

“The level of conviction needed, which is what I loved about that process, If I can have focus during this process, I can do anything. It was actually great.”

Brolin also noted that he had never met Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Doctor Strange in the MCU, adding that they have a whole scene together and he had never met him.
