Embarking on her journey as an actor by taking on the role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, Emma Watson became a well-acclaimed actress in Hollywood. The Hollywood star, however, has taken a break from the silver screen following the 2019 Oscar-nominated film Little Women. She has been quite open about the challenges and struggles of embodying different characters and constantly being in the spotlight.

However, the Harry Potter star has not retired from acting yet and has shared that she is looking forward to exploring new things, including writing and directing, in a recent interview with British Vogue.

 

Emma Watson is Not Stepping Away From Acting Yet

The 33-year-old actress Emma Watson, last seen in the 2019 film Little Women, has shared that she has not bid farewell to her acting career yet. Earlier in an interview with the Financial Times, she opened up about feeling a bit “caged” and not feeling very happy, which led her to take a break from acting.

However, in a candid confession to British Vogue, the actress has shared that she is not stepping away from acting and is looking forward to expanding her creative regimen and wants to feature in projects that she has written or directed. She told the outlet,
“I don’t see myself as having stepped away from acting—I just see myself as wanting to expand what I do and being able to be in things that I have written or directed or produced.”

While she shared that she has not retired, the actress also seemingly suggested that she might not return to the silver screen right away. “To really be at the start of a project takes time,” she said, as she explained that putting together a movie can take years to follow up on significant steps of filmmaking.

 

Emma Watson Wants to Explore Writing and Directing

Further in the conversation, Emma Watson also expressed her willingness to expand into writing and directing. She shared that she has been exploring writing and directing since the Covid-19 pandemic and finds it “really amazing.” The Bling Ring star claimed that it made her realize how much she “loved it” and wants to continue exploring such things.

“I wanted to keep doing that,” she said before adding, “And so I actually study now as well.” She also shared her excitement to direct something that she has written, saying, “To direct something that I’d written one day, that would make me pretty excited.”

 

The actress made her directorial debut with a 2022 short film for an ad campaign for the Prada Paradox fragrance. Additionally, Watson wrote, featured, and narrated the short film herself. Considering her aspirations, the actress seemed to be looking forward to doing the same with her next project as well.
