The game was arguably one of the season’s best games, with both players delivering incredible performances.

Brunson’s career night fell just two points short of breaking Carmelo Anthony’s single-game record for New York.

He also took 47 shots to get the 61 points, which was the most by any NBA player in a single game since the late Kobe Bryant put up 50 in his final game in 2016.

Wembanyama also had a historic showing for the Spurs, registering a massive 40 points, 20 rebounds, seven assists, one block, and two steals.

Nah, somebody else is going to pay for it.”

With that stat line, he became the first rookie since NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in 1993 to have a 40-20 game in year one.

However, the moment that sent social media into an uproar was right as the game ended.

Camaera captured Wembanyama grabbing the game ball in excitement after defeating a top Eastern Conference team and throwing it up into the air, landing multiple rows deep into the crowd.

Wembanyama spoke to reporters after the game about the decision.

He was asked if he would pay for the ball, and he jokingly said, “Nah, somebody else is going to pay for it.”

Despite Brunson scoring a new career-high, he didn’t seem too upset not to get the ball and was mad about the loss.

“It’s great, but that s**t. Excuse me. That stuff is washed out the window with a loss,” Brunson said.

“So it doesn’t really matter.”

Brunson also praised Wembanyama’s historic outing and expressed that the NBA is in trouble for the foreseeable future for his unique skill set.

“He’s going to be one of the greatest players this game has seen,” Brunson said.

“It’s tough to get a shot up and in over him.”

NBA fans flooded social media on Friday with reactions to the high-scoring game from two of the league’s biggest stars.

“Wemby spoiled Jalen Brunson’s 61pt game then threw the game ball into the crowd ahah,” this fan stated.

“Wemby is cold for that exactly what we need from a future Allstar. He’s the future,” another shared.

“Love this for the league. It’s good for the NBA,” a third declared.
